RedBuilt™ rim boards are manufactured in depths compatible with Red-I™ joists, provide a nailing surface at least equivalent to solid-sawn lumber, and have certified lateral and vertical load transfer capability. RedBuilt™ rim boards are high-quality, consistent, straight and dimensionally stable. They are designed to be used in normal temperatures and dry conditions of use.
RedLam™ laminated veneer lumber (LVL) rim board is a solid rectangular section, 1.75", 3.5", 5.25", or 7.0" thick, in depths from 9.5" to 24".
RedBuilt™ I-joists provide an option as a rim board in appropriate applications. The primary consideration is the non-rectangular cross-section. Fillers are needed for siding attachment. Deck attachment, when required, must use the rectangular rim board noted above. Red-I™ joist rim boards can be engineered to transfer significant lateral loads and provide adequate vertical load transfer (although less than rectangular rims).
